Hello: I have a Compaq SR1410nx and the onboard graphics are erratic. The red stops working from time to time. It happened again today. Everything is green and blue on this screen.

I tested to be sure the monitor is not the problem by replacing it but that is not the problem. Wiggled all the connections in case something is not soldered properly but it does not fix it.

Ok, I was to install a graphic card. The onboard graphics now are 64Mb. The power supply is 250 watts. The Compaq can only accept PCI.

Of course, I want the most performance for the least money. I don't want to spend a lot of money on an old machine (2.8 Ghz Celeron single core). So far I have found this graphic card for $39. that I think may be ok but I don't know much about graphic cards and what is good or bad.

PNY Technologies GeForce FX5200 256MB PCI

What do you think? Is there something that will work better? The computer is only used for e-mails, web surfing and eBay.

Thank you for your advice.

If you're not going to do ANY games, the card will serve its purpose. I should note, the NVIDIA 5000 (FX) series is not well looked upon...try looking for a cheap 6000 series card, just to be on the "safe" side if you can.

Do not I repeat do NOT buy the 8500GT PCI version from sparkle. Even in easy graphic games like WoW my FPS are only 13 average.
