Hello Tom's Hardware Community!

I am trying to overclock my Core i7 870 to somewhere near 3.75 - 4.0 GHz
I am using the Corsair H80 Liquid Cooler.
I have tried overclocking it, however, Windows 7 does not want to boot at these clocks. :(
Have the latest drivers for everything.
Any advice? :)
(The max clock that Windows will boot was around 3.65 GHz, I tried a little higher, but Windows won't boot)

System Specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD3
RAM: 12 GB DDR3 Corsair XMS 3
Cooling: Corsair H80 Liquid Cooler
CPU: Core i7 870 @3.9 GHz
HDD: Seagate 7200 RPM 2TB
SSD: A-Data S596 64GB (Microcenter Rebrand)
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 6870
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W

It is possible that your CPU won't run at that speed. You should start slower and work your way up. I don't know how this CPU compares to the i5-750 but I built 3 of them, 2 of which would run at 3.9 but the 3rd one would only run at 3.8. I would recommend that you start yours at 3.4 or 3.5, if it boots then test it for awhile, then move up by 0.05 or 0.1GHz and try again.

Alright, will try that tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!
