Hp pavillion dv9700 wont start lights blink on and off

HP Pavillion dv9700 won't start. when trying to power up lights on keyboard come on for a second, then turn off; can hear a sound that sounds like drive trying to start up; but then lights go out...then this all keep repeating itself every few seconds. took out batter thinking it was a power issue and tried direct current ; still no luck.

Did you ever find out what the problem was? That is exactly what mine started doing last week.
