I have an old Tecra 740 CDT that I got at a garage sale that I'm trying to
fix.

At the moment- the machine is dead as a doornail - when I plug in the AC
power adapter, the LED for "power" comes on, as well as the "battery
charging" LED.
When I turn it on, the "On" LED also turns on, but nothing happens - there
is no disk whirring sounds, none of the additional LEDs that usually flash
on then off as part of the POST (e.g- Caps lock LED) turn on.

Anything I could try, before I throw it in the dumpster?

Check to see if it has memory and a hard drive. Without any memory, it
might not boot. But many older ones had onboard memory. Hmm. Also maybe
check to see that the power adapter is outputing the right voltage using a
voltmeter. Other than that, I am stumped. It should do somthing. You
might be able to take the screen, memory, cdrom, hard drive out and sell on
ebay in as is condition
