Asus drw-24b1st problem

i am using an asus 24b1si dvdr and need help.
at first installed it worked for a while and now on numerious occassions when i load a dvd it freezes my pc I have to reboot. Other times when I load a dvd the drive slows down and i hear a tick tick every 3 0r 5 seconds. can you help Thanks

DVD drives fail. You may simply have to replace it. Is it in warranty?

Edit: Admittedly, it could be a host of other things from motherboard issues to having played a Sony CD, but a busted DVD drive is the most likely issue.

tHIS HAPPENED also ON MY OLD MB , WITH AN OLD DVDR. when i put a dvd or cd in the drive I lost one of my harddrives . when i closed the dvd drive the harddrive came back. I then decidede to change my MB and a new dvd r about 3 weeks ago. It worked ok at first but now it does the same thing as before with the old mb and drive.
I am using a phenom II x940 processor on an lg motherboard with
win 7 32 bit.
I should have explained all this before sorry.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can get a new DVD reader for twenty bucks. Try it and see if it makes your problem go away.
