I'm looking to buy an external zip drive for my TP 600E. I have learnt that
they come in two flavors: with and without the external power supply
adaptor, the latter being powered solely via usb. Natually I would prefer no
external power adaptor but will the usb port in my TP be enough to power the
drive? The description of the drive mentioned the usb must be marked as
powered but I've no idea if mine is of that kind. Anyone got a clue?

Why not get an internal one for the Ultraslimbay? Widely available on eBay
in both 100MB and 250MB.

Thanks, but I think a usb drive would be a little more convenient to
occasionally hook up as I don't need it on a daily basis. Can anyone answer
my original question?

I don't have one of my own, but I borrowed one from a coworker. I tested it
on a 600X, not a 600E, but they're close enough I think.
Anyway - worked just fine - Iomega recommends connecting it directly to the
computer, and not using a hub or having other devices connected at the same
time.
From what I've experienced - it won't use any more power than my USB floppy
drive - hopefully someone will answer with more detailed information.
I don't normally used the USB Zip drive, as I still use a SCSI Zip Drive
with an Adaptec 1460D SCSI card that I also use with the Zip Drive (along
with Jaz Drive, CD-ROM drive, and hard drive) with my pocket pc and handheld
pc.
