Hello.

I'm just wondering, what kind of PSU would I need to power the 58xx-series?
Will my CoolerMaster be enough? I forget if it's a 520w or 560w...

Thanks. :)

We wont know until they come out but their power consumption should be similar to a 4850 or 4870 due to the smaller transistor size.

Is that the TDP or the acctual consumption? :??:
'Cause the TDP is specified to 190 theoretical max...

I suppose we'll all find out soon enough.

I've searched the web for benchmarks, and from what I've found, it's overall performance is better, and it comes with a lower price! :)

What I've been wondering about with the 58xx cards is, if the idle is around the 28-30w and full load being around 190w, how many people are going to run into issues when their PSU's can't handle the sudden ramp up of 160w. Similar thoughts to you thomaseron perhaps.

^ or if you had 2-4 of them, that would be a 320-640w drop :)

Well, similar is the word. :)
When I think about it, I've measured the consumption with a wattmetre (?) in the wallsocket,
and with my 8800GT and 7HDDs, my PC still doesn't seem to use more than about 170 watts...
So my PSU should be enough... :bounce:

You should be OK with that CM unit but there are many others with their l33t 100 jiga watt @ 3ma jobbies who still believe all PSU's are pretty much the same, so long as it's got enough watts right? ;)

The HD 5870 has the same TDP as the HD 4890, I have a 4890 with an overclocked i7 920, 1 HDD and 1 DVD-RW and my Corsair HX520W has no problems powering my rig.

Incorrect comma placement and don't forget you asked a question. Also using perhaps at the end of your comment was unnecessary and just plain silly.

Grammar Gestapo. HAIL! :kaola:

The Corsair HX520W is a lot more powerful than the Coolermaster Real Power M520W, the latter won't be enough if you plan on using a Phenom II or i7 CPU.

Why not? Because of the 12V-lanes? :??:

That's why I buy PC Power and Cooling power supplies only, I never worry about power.
