i am looking into building a computer. i have decent knowledge and help if needed, but im not 100% sure on what to buy. i have a list here on what i think i want and what i think will go well together. my budget is around 1000 bucks, but this ended up being 1200, which is fine. i want a great gaming machine, but cant afford i7 quality so here is my next best thing idea:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

hard drive (179.99) - Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (bare drive)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

there is the list. after shipping its 1277.47. other then mouse, keyboard, and wireless internet card, i dont think im missing any parts. i wont be using a sound card other then the mobo

basically im looking for feedback on how anything listed is a bad product, not compatible, not really good for gaming, or can be replaced by something better for around the same price

^ There are some components that can be improved upon...

1. CPU - It is a very good choice...

2. Mobo - Very good choice...

3. Graphics card - If you are not an extreme gamer, then the HD 4850 is suffice...
But if you have a 1920X1200 or 1080p resolution monitor, then you might want to get a little more powerful card like the HD 4870 1GB or HD 4890 1GB

4. PSU - The Corsairs are very high quality PSUs...But I highly doubt you would require that much power...
A 650TX is more than suffice for graphic cards upto 2x HD 4870 easy...
But if you are planning for single card configurations, then dont get anything above 550W

5. Velociraptor -> Certainly not worth the price...
For that price, I would suggest this...
2x WD Black 640GB in RAID 0...It would easily perform better than the Velociraptor and would give you about 1.2TB of space...

6. Do you really need the business features of the Ultimate...For a gaming PC, the Home Premium is more than suffice...

7. RAM - You can get good cheaper options...

how is this for an upgrade on the graphics card. only like 20 bucks more each
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

here is a 650 watt power supply instead, saves only about 20 bucks, so im not sure if ill switch this or not since the 750 watt one there is no way ill ever need an upgrade no matter what i add to my system
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

as far as the hard drive, i like the Velociraptor simply because of its speed. i dont do music or movies on the pc so i dont need a lot of space, so 150 gig is more then enough i think. so that being said, if the speed on here is going to be unnoticeable then i would definitely switch it out for a cheaper one, but i hate waiting on stuff to load up

and lastly the OS. ive been on xp pro for a couple years, but i was to understand that the vista/7 ultimate was the best for gaming. if this is not the case then i will get the home version instead and save 100 bucks

thanks

The Western Digital black drives are very fast and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between a black drive and a VelociRaptor. Vista Ultimate is a waste of money for most people and certainly isn't better for gaming than Home Premium. You can use combo deals on hard drives and the OS to save even more money. Here's a couple hard drive/OS combo deals to consider:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite... $169.98 (640GB WD black drive + OS combo)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite... $149.98 (Samsung F3 500GB drive + OS combo)

If you're still dead set on a VelociRaptor, at least use a combo to save some money.

Nice! We got you under your $1000 budget. :)  That's a very nice system. I have a couple last minute suggestions, though. The Asus GPU you linked to above is sold out, but I would use some of the money saved to upgrade to a 4870 1GB since it's considerably faster than the 4850. I would also spend a few more dollars and get a faster CAS7 RAM kit.

mushkin XP 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996657 - Retail $99.99

SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail $149.99

You could go with the Antec 300 to save a bit more money.
