First it says March 30, is this the April update for datgen to work
properly?
Is this a manually installed update for DirectX I have to do? Now, I
know to run the exe file but
what else should I do? I hear there are some zip files with the exe
file. Where do they go?
Ugh I am not sure I want to do this. LOL I am asking these questions for
the direct x update.

Help please!

Good luck on getting datgen to work right, I never could get it to do what
they said it could do :(

Well, I never did get that Direct X update but I got the download maid
to work. Wonder what causes
empty packages? I had 4 or 5. I've seen this in the clean installer too
but I wonder what causes it???
Nearly everything I have is causing the game to be slow but if I get
rid of them.......might as well just
play the game as it came in the box. LOL

Ah Good - I'm glad you got it working. I think the makers of DatGen set the
limits for polycounts/vertex rather low so a lot of stuff shows up as
game-slowing (which it is really, but not all of it is intolerably so). I
thought, though, they graded them as low-medium-high risk? Anyway, you also
get the information about the actual number of polys in each mesh. I bit
the bullet and got rid of some of the really big ones. I think the point
is, the programme gives you the information to make that decision *if you
want to*. The orphaned texture search will be useful once it's working
properly.

The empty packages are caused by something specific and I cannot recall just
now what it is - I'll remember some time tomorrow and if I remember to let
you know, I'll post (my memory these days is awful). You need to be
careful, if I remember right, because some apparently empty packages aren't
entirely and are needed. I read about it on Mod the Sims 2. Sorry to be so
vague.

I'm using DatGen, at the moment, to make all my custom hair conform to the
games genetics system using the hair toner plug in. I need to find out if I
can do the same with the skin tones - I think you use the skin fixer for
that. Apparently, facial hair is in the pipeline. I'm hoping to make the
eyes work with the genetics too and then you can try a true breeding
programme with recessive and dominant genes!!

Best wishes

Awe thanks Maxon, you are very helpful! I will go read the posts at
MTS2.
Next time, I'll just put those empty pkgs in a temp folder.

Uh - just saw this - yes, that is the right version and as I remember it,
the installation was very straight-forward although I can't remember the
details just now. You said it took ages to DL - did you go through the
validation routine from Microsoft? I always avoid it as it just makes
everything painfully long-winded.

Best wishes

I did go through the validation but it could have been the time of day
and traffic
was high. I'll try now to download again. I wonder though since datgen
is working if
I might just wait. Hmmm!

Thanks for your reply though.

If it's working, you must have the update already as it won't work without
it AFAIK. Do you get all the plugins for DatGen or just Download Maid?

Best wishes

I just got the Clean Installer, and the web site (the FAQ I think) said that
the empty packages are caused by downloading lots. Didn't say you could or
couldn't get rid of them though.

I've deleted empty packages and had no problems, but don't quote me, lol.
