Flash OEM Bios with "Real Bios"

So my GF has this ancient ass HP Pavilion running an Award Bios. My question is can I flash it with a bios from Phoenix or do I have to use the one HP has on their site. It is an Pavilion a510n with the mobo being an Asus A7V8X-LA.

Depends on what HP has done on the hardware - ie. if they modified it from the original ASUS model then you would need the HP BIos version in order for things to work properly - if they did not make any changes then the regular ASUS BIOS should work - Could always try it and see (just be sure that you have a copy of the original BIOS to revert to if things do not work correctly after Flashing)
