Hello,

I am trying to get a Windows XP machine to burn a DVD-R, using my external DVD writer.

The Windows XP box is fully updated to SP3.

The external DVD writer is an LG Super Multi External DVD Rewriter (Model: GE20NU11)

It is detected by Windows as 'HL-DT-ST DVDRAM USB Device', and is also detected in Nero Burning Rom 11.

When I try to use the DVD-RW to burn a disc, using Nero, the disc just spins in place, with the light flashing.

If I check for the device using Windows with a disc in the DVD-RW, it is no longer listed as an installed device.

I was advised to download 'CDgone' and to Right click and choose Extract All,
open folder and double click on cdgone.reg file. This did not solve the problem.

I was also advised to do the following:

left click start in the lower left hand of the screen
left click run
type regedit
left click OK
Now the registry editor will come up
double left click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
double left click on SYSTEM
double left click on CurrentControlSet
double left click on Control
double left click on Class
double left click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
look on the right side of the window for upper filters
right click on upper filters
left click delete
windows will then ask you to confirm deletion
click yes
look on the right side of the window for lower filters
right click on lower filters
left click on delete
windows will then ask to confirm deletion
click yes
Close all the windows that are open
restart the computer.

When I did this, neither upper nor lower filters where there for me to delete.

So I have a drive that is listed, until I try to use it, when it disappears. Neither the upper or lower filters are there to be deleted, and CDGone does nothing.

Ideas?

Many thanks.

Try startup with no other USB devices plugged in.
