My USB ports stopped working. Tried to reinstall but came up with error message saying could not find drivers. Got PCI card and put it in but it still said it could not install as there was an I/O error application request whatever that is. Is my mother board knackered...also if I get new mother board can I save my software as I do not have some original discs? Please please help...getting really depressed!!!!!

Have you checked the "device manager" in the control panel under "system"? Try uninstalling all the devices that have a mark next to them and reboot. You shouldn't have to use any drivers; windows should find all the usb ports if you have service pack 2 installed for xp or service pack 4 for windows 2k pro. Vista and 7 should find them with no problems.
