Slightly lower clocks, but you get Hyperthreading for $20 (CAD!), kinda like an i5 850

I was thinking the same thing. Now to find a compatible mobo...

EDIT: Lots of people say they work in any P55 mobo, despite not being specifically supported.

That looks a good deal but the difference isn't much,not all apps/games benefit from Hyperthreading

Hyperthreading doesnt show up on benchmarks for desktop apps but it does make the difference when multitasking

I'd buy the XEON equivalents any day over the non-XEON's if the price was right. You'll usually get a better overclock, and there really aren't any detriments to Hyperthreading.

Well, I think this is one time where the price is most definatley right....

Everything I can find says these things run fine on normal P55 boards, anyone find something different? I'll buy an i5 if I need to get a $300 mobo to run one of these...

That might not work... just read down the part about chipsets... but hey, it is Wikipedia so keep that in mind. I've never really considered Xeon to be a viable gamer (mainly due to its cost) but this might just be an exception.

There's no reason a CPU running on the correct socket type motherboard won't work, XEON or not.

I don't think there will be a problem runing the Xeon CPU on P55 chipset because its actually the same class as i5 one

Generally the Xeon's that work with desktop motherboards are the exact same as the desktop chip, Intel just renamed them so OEMs like Dell can say "This server is great because it has a Genuine Intel Xeon Server Processor!"
