my volume controls on my computer xp is not working

Which volume controls are you referring to? Have you tried right clicking the speaker icon in the bottom right, then click on open volume control. Make sure all the volumes are turned up there. If everything seems good there and it still isn't working right click My Computer->Properties->Hardware tab->Device Manager Make sure there are no exclamation points around your sound controller, its near the bottom.
