I have a Compaq SR1230NX.I have already installed more memory(512mb) yet it is still running slow. It has a 3200= AMD athlon processor. Can I install a newer processor? I am not super computer literate so go easy on me:>)

It uses an Asus A7V8Z-LA (Kelut-GL6E) mobo with a VIA KM400A chipset.

Maximum approved processors:

* Athlon XP 3200+ Barton Processor (2.20 GHz, 400MHz)
* Athlon XP 2700+ Thoroughbred Processor (2.16GHz, 333MHz)

Sorry to say, that you are using the fastest cpu available for your mobo.

One thing you can do to increase performance a little is to add more memory. Your machine will take up to 2 GB so you would have to take out what you have, since you only have two slots, and add two new sticks. It should give you a little boost on many apps, but you will have to decide if it is worth it to you to put that much money into your aging system. Might be better to look for a Black Friday special - a new system for $250-300, if you can afford it.
