Computer will not recognize drive

I had a WD 1 TB my book with the preloaded wd smartware on it. Unfortunately the usb port fell out of the back of this thing so I swapped it into a new case thinking this would work but my computer will not recognize the drive. I would figure it is because of WD smartware any suggestions?

let me be a little more specific on my problem I am looing to get around wd smartware so that I can still use my HDD I just dont know how to go about doing it as my computer will not recognize the existence of my external.

Do you have any spare sata ports on your motherboard? You can try directly attaching the drive. If it's seen in windows, partition and format the drive, then try sticking it back in the enclosure.

I have a sata cord on the side of my laptop would that work the same?

That might work although I assume the laptop port is an Esata port in which case you may need an esata to sata cable and you will still need a way to power the drive.
