Toshiba Satellite Pro 400 CDT - keyboard problem

I have a 400CDT with Win95osr2 installed, recently it has been behaving
strangely
I can't type text into text boxes, or Notepad etc
When I double-click a desktop icon, the properties sheet appears
Single-clicking an icon acts as if the Control key was pressed - it adds
to the selection

I can run a program by right-clicking & choosing open

The problem remains if I try to get the F8 boot menu, or start from a
floppy

The 7890uiopjkl;m,./ keys do work, i.e. the 'numeric keypad' keys,
including with Shift

I have tried reinstalling Win95

Any suggestions gratefully received !

I'd try reseating the keyboard cable at it's motherboard plug. This
sounds like cable problem or motherboard problem.

A 400CDT is not worth replacing, you can buy entire computers on E-Bay
for under $50, and the screen is only VGA resolution. For the same
price, you can probably get a 430CDT, which is drastically better, or
for not much more a higher end 4xx model with USB and a Pentium MMX CPU.

I have had the same problem, which seems to occur randomly once or twice every 6 months or so. . I luckily kept my old wire free keyboard. If I sign in using it rather than the lap top key board the problem solves it self and I then can use the lap top keyboard. I do not know what the problem is, but this always solves it?
