OK so I want to build a PC strictly for music. (Pro Tools+ tons of plug ins/midi keyboard).

I'm trying to stay in the $600 to $800 range but can go higher if it means big performance boost

Heres what I'm looking at currently. Any suggestions/ changes would be appreciated.

Case- XCLIO big-ass case with huge fans...

CPU- phenom II 720 ( I plan on unlocking 4th core and OC ing

CPU Cooler- Sunbeam core contact freezer

Mobo- GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P

RAM- (8GB) OCZ Reaper(1066) CL- 5

HDD- 750GB Caviar Black (7200 rpm)

PSU- Seventeam ST-750PAF 750W ATX 12V V2.2 80 Plus Bronze

DAWs are strictly CPU bound machines so ditch the GPU and try to hit a quad like x4 945 95W TDP ^^ The 78xG or 790GX IGP chipsets would do fine While your plan for unlcoking is creative know that it was the earlier 0904 and to a certain extent 0906 steppings for Heka 710/720BE that had success and not all ACC AM2+/AM3 mobos (this would be those on SB710/750) have the BIOS to unlock

also could go down to a corsair 450VX, should be plenty for the PSU

Thanks, I probly will get a lower PSU. I just wasnt sure how much power the CPU cooler was gonna take up. Especially since I will be OCing. You really think 450V is enough?

I'll probably end up getting the phenom ii 955 too, as soon as it goes back down to $190 on newegg. It's $215 right now. Damn their fluctuating prices!!!

As far as the mobo, youre right, the 790GX comes with a sufficient graphics card so no need for a separate one.

All of the suggestions have been helpful so far, Thanks

Ya +1 on Corsair 450VX You are welcomed

+1 for 450VX or heck even 400CX is enough.

@OP: What sound card? Depending on what you plan to do and the speakers, etc you have a sound card can/may make a difference. On board is fine for most tasks, but I think you should look into a good soundcard if planing to use MIDI,etc.
