Hi,

Just replaced my Celeron CPU with a Pentium D 945(3.4GHz,4MB)fsb 800 from an older PC. The pentium is working fine in the older machine.

When the upgraded machine boots it gets past the BIOS screen and then switches off,

I put the Celeron back into the MOBO, flashed the BIOS with the most recent version and when i put the pentium back in the problem still remains.

I`m using a Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 Mother board with 2 gigs of 667 ram and I followed all the MOBO instructions for installing a new CPU from the Manual.

Can anybody help as i`m obviously doing something wrong,

Dave

Are you sure that it doesn't overheat?

Overheating because of improper HSF installation is one possibility. Inadequate power is another.

And it is possible that the CPU died in the transplant process. Does the CPU still work in the old computer?

Heat is a real possibility - but so also is your PSU - Pentium D's use a lot of power, maybe the PUS isnt up to the task

post your full specs and someone will be able to point you in the right direction
