hey so im building my first rig and ive been doing a bit of research, might be a little old mind you, but this is what i came up with. As of now, i have no combo deals in the set up because most will probably end before i can actually get it (probably sometime in mid september/early september)
ill be using this for programming, gaming, video/image editing, music, movies, surfing, school.
I also plan on OC'ing it to ~4+/-ghz. ill need a bit of help with that later lol. but for now this is what its looking like. Any suggestions are appreciated, (incompatibilities, too much of this, too little of that, dont ever get that, etc)

here it is

o btw i have the mindset to get a second radeon later on for cf perhaps when prices drop b/c of 5000 series, and also if u know a place where i can get these parts for cheaper let me know thanks.

Hi...
thats a pretty good setup...
But here are few suggestions to make it better...

1. CPU Cooler - If you want to overclock high, then you would need something better...
Xig Dark Knight

2. This combo would last pretty long
CASE + 700W PSU
This PSU is an 80+ Silver certified and 700W is suffice for dual card config...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.231330

3. If you have a Microcenter store nearby, then you can get the i7 for about $220 with taxes for in-store pick-up only...

rigu.jpg

altogether it would be around $1686.10

unfortunately the wd blacks that why_me mentioned are out of stock, i signed up for "notify me" and hopefully theyll be around b4 i start buying everything. 10$ less for 280 gbs more is great!

You also need to check this 23" Monitor out.

One thing I did notice that you did not List and that was the OS. Here is another Combo Deal that you can add with the Case you are ordeing and save another $15.00.
1. Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders w/free Windows 7 upgrade coupon - OEM $109.99 Free Shipping*

2. COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000 RC-1000-KSN1-GP Black/ Silver Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail $169.99 Free Shipping*

I would suggest the same Thermal Compound as Why_Me did. Unless you want to wait 200 hrs before Arctic Silver 5 finally cures and temps finally stabalize. The ARCTIC COOLING MX-2, cures right away.
ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 Thermal Compound $4.49

Use your student email to get Vista Ultimate for $64.95. I think this still works but have not tried it. I was able to put Vista in my cart. I'm using this as a backup if my Windows 7RC download doesn't install:

FYI: the faster response time is 1 reason this monitor is better (2ms).

FYI: cheaper and lower latency = mo' better.
