OK - well, I tried to find my old tutorial but I have deleted virtually
everything Sims1-related from my machine now and it's not up at my group
either.
But if I remember it correctly, it's fairly straightforward unless you want
to change the mesh as well. From memory, to give an individual sim a custom
nude skin tone, what you do is this:
1. Find out what casual clothes your sim is wearing - you need the name of
the texture file. You'll find the clothes in the Skins folder. Let's use
an example, let's say you have a female sim wearing a set of clothes called:
B105FAFitLgt_PurpleLeggings.bmp
(The coding at the beginning means: B105=mesh number; FA=female adult;
Fit=fit; Lgt=light skin tone - if you don't understand the coding I HAVE got
my tutorial for this and can send it to you- email me privately).
2. Get your nude skin file. It should have a name something like (but
probably not exactly) NFFitLgt_01.bmp - this is actually the default file
name and if you put this in your Skins folder, all your adult light female
fit sims will have this skin when nude. On the other hand, your nude skin
file might be named the old, pre-Hot Date, way (which I can't remember).
Anyway, to make that file appear for the one sim only you need to change the
name to this:
NFFitLgt_PurpleLeggings.bmp
(coding means: N= nude; F=female, the rest as before. It's important to get
this right so don't change the coding unless you have to, also make sure the
name of the skin (PurpleLeggings) is exactly the same as it is with the
original clothes)
You do the same with the hands:
HFLOLgt_PurpleLeggings.bmp and
HFROLgt_PurpleLeggings.bmp
(coding means: H=hand; F=female; L or R: left or right; O=open hand skin,
you don't usually get the closed or pointing hand files with a custom skin
but it doesn't matter too much since the sims don't walk round with their
hands in a fist or pointing all the time so you only see the hands slip back
to the original base skin tone occasionally. I never bothered to make these
though it's not difficult, you basically need a bmp file for each state and
both hands, named by the convention outlined above. What that does mean
though is you skins folder gets cluttered up with more and more files which,
as you probably know, slows the loading of the game.).
At least that's how I think I used to do it. Basically, you make the name
of the custom nude skin match the name of the casual clothes. If it doesn't
work, you'd better write back and ask again and I'll see if there's anything
else I can remember. Basically the first things to check are that you got
the names right and that the files are in the right format. It's nearly a
year now since I did this stuff - I used to offer a skin-fixing service on
my Yahoo group and now I can't remember half of it. Sigh. Naming the skins
in this way means you can have individual nude skins for individual sims - I
used to like tattoos and coloured nail polish and hair and no hair and
stuff. You use the _01 name for defaults and you'll need separate files for
children as well as adults if you want them to have the light skin tone. If
you want individual meshes for certain sims - for example I had some lovely
meshes called Rubenesque from Mermaid Cove which were voluptuous ladies -
the process is a bit more complicated. However, Hairfish still has those
skins up and you can work out how to do it from that.
Oh, Sims 2 is much better. I've got quite a way with the skins now but the
main thing I want to know now is how to make the custom skin tones genetic.
I know how to do the hairs (smug glow).
Best wishes
