d-Link Router WBR 1310 rev B. Unable to set Password. WiFi works with Laptop. I go to d-Link web site, follow instructions to re-set User name & Password. Does not work. I plugged Ethernet cord in Laptop & in "Lan 1" in back of router. Should I plug into Modem instead? Any suggestions?

Are you talking about the Router Setup Username and Password or the Wireless Security Passphrase or the ISP Username ??

You are correct to connect the computer to router by ethernet into a Lan socket.

You normally connect the router to the modem by ethernet using the WAN/Internet socket.

If you simply want to test that you have service, connect the computer
to the modem via ethernet.

If you get stuck I would suggest that you contact your ISP.
