i recently tried using a wattage calculator for my 1700$ build.
i will be using an i7 920 , 3 1gb 1600mhz gskill ram sticks, 2 gtx 295's, a 7200 rpm 1tb hard drive, dvd rw drive, two cold cathodes, and a flaming blade mobo, using an coolermaster haf 932 case also.
this wattage calculator says i need about 800 watts. that cant be right.
thanks for your time

Why only 3GB Ram with all those other top end components? (not that it affects the wattage).

Nvidias specs are 680W for a system with one 295, and 290W more for the second GPU so more like 970. Highly unscientific but probably very safe.

I noticed the free PSU calculator I used seems to be calculating alot lower than I would risk. Its quite possible that 800W is correct, though because you only have 2 graphics CPUS. Given you dont seem to be budget minded, I would get at least a 1000W to leave room for overclocking and peak loads.

This PSU can do anything and is modular so you dont have cables hanging out everywhere:

That's one power intensive combination you have there, although I would think a 750W power supply should work well. If you plan to overclock your CPU to 4G then you might push the limit of that supply.

What calculator did you use?
