Can my gateway profile 3 be upgraded to a 40 or 80 gb hard drive and 1 gig of ram?

Don't know about the hardrive. For faster speed, I would get a controller card for the hardrive. 256 megs per slot is probably the limit for your motherboard. Multiply that by 2 or 4 depending on the number of slots. You might be better off checking craigslist or the anandtech for sale forum for a faster system, and transfer your hardrive or back it up first.
