Acer Aspire 5101 with XP. Can I wipe the hard drive, remove the partition and then load Vista Home Premium from my desktop onto the laptop. I don't want the Acer recovery programme I would prefer using Vista's restore or if necessary just reformat completely if needed.

Do you have a real full Vista disc (NOT an OEM disc) and license key, and you have removed it from your desktop? If so, then go for it!
