Memory cost

Hi,
Just curious if anyone knows, is there actually a reason why memory has doubled in cost in the last eight months ?
I wasnt really paying attention and had read a little while ago that DDR3 had got to the point where it has price parity with DDR2. What i didnt realise is that DDR2 has come up to meet DDR3 and not vice versa. This puts a whole new slant on if its worth the planned upgrade i was going to do now
Im in the UK by the way and dont know if this is the same for every one.

Various articles I've seen said that the Taiwanese memory chip mfrs. agreed to limit their mem chip production to decrease supply and increase prices to increase their profits.

Yea sounds about right, thats what i thought, I reasoned that they noticed how the GPU market just bumps the price of the old tech up so its not worth buying it instead of the old then drop the price on it when its useless to anyone. but thought i would ask.
