what do you think the new prices of the old cards GTX260-285 4850-4890 will be after the 5850-5870(x2) is released? i'm curious because i'm building a new PC soon and i was originally going to buy the sapphire 1gb ddr5 4870 but if the GTX275 drops a lot i will most likely buy it. and the 5870 is scheduled to be released the 22th i think?

I don't know how low they will go, but nvidia has a history of discontinuing a cards before selling it at that low price.

They most likely will add a few improvements, rename it and discontinue the 'old' ones.

Why are you bumping this? Who do you know that can see into the future? You got the best answer you can expect until they are out... that is that no one can possibly have any idea until teh prices actually come down.

If ati lowers their prices (which they may not until they get the low end 5000 cards), nvidia will have to respond... but no one can tell what they will be, or even if, until. The 4000 series cards will drop a bit to fill a new price point depending on the prices of the 5000... when that happens all prices will readjust to a new price point.. given the new performance point.

It all depends on what happens on the 22nd. If its purely a paper launch with no cards out, then the prices will stay the same. If they are only releasing the 5870, then only the 4870/4890 will drop, maybe. If the 5870 is as strong as its rumored to be, then they might not change at all. 4870 will be at $200, 4890 will be at $250, and the more powerful 5870 will sit at $300. You might not see price cuts until the 5850 is out. And who knows when that card will come. It will be awhile before the GTX275 is down to $150-$175.
