Dell dimension 2400 dvd rom

My dvd rom tray keeps moving in and out by itself. I have a dell dimension 2400. I would like to know if I need a new dvd rom drive, whether I need exact make for model or can buy a different make. Also will I need to reinstall drivers if I do need to renew the dvdrom drive? Thanks for your advise

Hi, it constantly does it while the computer is on. It started about 3 days ago and yesterday was constant, so annoying. Sometimes not fully moving out and going back in quite quickly. Today it has been happening most of the day, but it has been slower. I have tried to install new drivers from the dell website thinking it might be this.

I don't think it's a driver problem. There's probably an issue with the actual hardware the drive itself. If your Dell's still under warranty, try to avail. If you can't, new optical drives are surprisingly cheap, from websites like NewEgg.com. Hope this helps!
