So ive been away from the techno gadgets for about 2 years and now im back. I wanted to originally build something under a grand but lol everyone knows what happens. Turn to be 30% more. Before I finalize my order just wanted to get some insight on my parts. This will be used for average use of a comp and some gaming but definitly overclocked.
-Antec Nine Hundred Two Case $125
-OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V $90
-ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 $250
-CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 PCC 12800 $125
-EVGA 896-P3-1170-AR GeForce GTX 275 896MB 448-bit DDR3 $28
-Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard $70
- (2) SAMSUNG DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223L LightScribe Support - OEM $30
Graphics card - You getting GTX 275 for $28 or $280 ????
If $28 please quote source...but if getting for $280, then get the same from newegg for about $230
HDD - Don't get the 500GB one...instead get the WD Black 640GB one...they are newer, faster and more efficient...
Swap the hard drive out for a seagate 500GB 12 series drive, it costs less and is significantly faster than the WD 500GB drive because its single platter.

Take a look at the hard drive charts on this site, except on latency it scores right next to the 300GB VR which used to be the fastest drive, cache size helps a little but platter density helps more,
sounds good but agghhh cant finalize on mobo and graphic card. on each im willing to spend up too 280 but everything i read theres some sort of downfall. anything i might have missed?

You recommend seagates? IMO the WD Cav Black 500 or 640 would be better than ANY seagate ATM.... Just curious, since seagate went back to their 3 year warranty they have been going down-hill.....
It'll take a while before I ever purchase a Seagate drive again. It takes more than coming out with a new version to impress me. I've seen some not so good reviews of the 7200.12 drives. The fact that they started making their drives in China at the same time they dropped the warranty from 5 years to 3 isn't making me hold my breath. They may just settle for being mediocre.
Hmm, i guess i missed the time period when seagate went to hell. My 250GB 10 series is still going strong. Hopefully toms will do a full hard drive review soon with the new 500GB platters out there.
I know they have 10k SAS drives that are supposed to be faster than the Raptors but who would pay 300$ for a platter vs. what you can get from a new SSD at that price point??
@getyokd Going with either the WD Black 640GB/ Samsung F3 500GB/ Seagate 7200.12 500GB will be better than that WD Black 500GB...
And as for the mobo, it is not necessarily that a costly mobo or graphics card would perform better...
But the Deluxe V2 is a very good choice if you will making full use of the additional features that it offers...Else you can get either of the boards that I have listed...
Graphics card - Clearly the GTX 275 is the best option if you are nvidia specific
else even the HD 4890 for slightly less would offer similar performance...
