Hi

I play quite a few games on my pc and for the last 2 years it has been fine, running most games on pretty good settings. I have started playing Aion and have to have the settings right down low. I really want to play it with better graphics. my computer is currently:-

Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS (320MB)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 5600+
4GB Ram

yesterday I bought a new Graphics card because I thought it would be a good upgrade, Nvidia 9800GT (512MB). Would it be much of an upgrade or have i just wasted money?? and what else could i do to increase performance without spending too much money?? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

You should notice a fairly large improvement, particularly if you use AA, the old (G80 core) 8800 was terrible at AA and the extra video memory will improve matters further.
Do not forget to update to the latest drivers for the new card!

would it be worth seeing if i can take the card back (as I havent taken it out the packaging yet) and spending an extra £50 on the gts 250??

Yeah, a GTS 250 shouldn't cost that much more and and in general ATI cards are better for the money at the moment. If you are in the UK I'd probably get this;

or this

The first is really overkill considering your processor but it will serve you well if you upgrade. The second is very slightly less powerful than the GTS 250 but also slightly cheaper and much cooler, smaller and more power efficient.
If you insist on Nvidia here's a GTS 250 for £81;
