Should I stop overclocking?

I just bought a new gaming computer, the DELL Studio XPS 7100. My dad said that he replaced the graphics card that was already in the computer (AMD Radeon 5850) with an AMD Radeon 6770. I've heard that the 5*** series vastly outdo the 6*** series, so I tried overclocking to make up for the terrible decision that was made.

I used MSI Afterburner to overclock my Core Clock speed from 800Mhz to 850Mhz, and my memory clock speed from 1000Mhz to 1110 Mhz, and my fan from 39% to 50%.

The temperature (Celsius) is now 45 degrees idle, 50 degrees when browsing the web, and the MAXIMUM it ever got to was 76 degrees when gaming. Can I go for a little more?

Your temps are about normal for that card. Have you tried for 900 and if so what were those temps and was it stable? I would also allow afterburner to auto run your fan for you or at least manually set it so it can ramp higher then 50% under full load.
