Two of those ^

Or one of those? Which would be better? I'm trying to build my own rig for the first time and I know nothing about graphics cards. The other things that I've decided to go with the i5 750 and I'll be picking the motherboard based on which of these options are better.

Yeah I agree with these guys. Buying now would be silly when you could get a newer 5 series card from ati. Just to answer your question though, the 2 4870s would technically be faster.

I like to buy older gen cards before release of the new tech that way when next year rolls around can purchase new cards for half the price their on sell for at release.

Normally, that is what I do as well. But I gotta say, the new 5800's are coming out with a pretty reasonable price. I might just have to snag 1 of these myself.

perhaps, reasonable price/performance. i don't know about reasonable price, period. funny, i just said period twice.
anyway, i remember when 4850 was priced at $200. i think that was much better deal than 5850 at $260. think about it.

gtx 285 for $400??? man thats a worst deal now as the 5series came out and the 5870 is now to be found in $380 here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6&Tpk=5870 its only the saphhire but more companies cards coming out in less than 24hours. 5870 performs better than 285 and has newer dx version.

Personaly i think u would be better off with a 5850 which should be about $270 (in case u want to save some money for other parts). A 5850 max out most of the games in 1920x1200 resolution. So its up2u now.

Both are overpriced.
You can get a 4870 1GB version for $150 - 2x more RAM and $30 cheaper.
