My friend doesn't know how to get this solved......his desktop gets frozen each time he clicks on the taskbar ( desktop unclickable )
...
windows7 ultimate 64bit
hp pavillon core i5
ram 4GB

Although I would be able to fix your computer without doing a restore, I doubt that you or your friend would have the technical knowledge to do so. The lockup may be caused by a virus in which case a system restore would likely not help, which is one of the reasons I asked if you could boot in safe mode

download ShellExView from here http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

"The ShellExView utility displays the details of shell extensions installed on your computer, and allows you to easily disable and enable each shell extension. "
so when the problem occurs run the software (by a hot key) and try to disable every suspicious shell extension. once you find the culprit locate its directory and delete it.
