New wd hard drive io error

Hello,
Brand new wd external hard drive, I/O error when trying to back up data, progress bar gets to around 80% then error message appears

what is the exact message. i would recommend contacting WD, it might be a defective drive

Hi Paul,

Were you trying to use the Win-7 BackUp and Restore Image for the first time? Second time it should be fine.

However, any question, run chkdsk /r to make sure all the used and unused sectors are OK. Other choice is to download TD Tune (free version) and check both the Health Status tab and run the Error Scan to see if there is any problem with it.

Agree with r3x, the 'error message' is very helpful determining if there is a problem.
