Changing the harddrive and os at once

Hello,
I probably did a real dumb thing...I changed the ssd in my dell mini 9 and then went right into installing a new os (win xp) and then the drivers. i didnt install a driver for the ssd neither did i do anything with the bios manually. Now, I am able to run the computer and windows, but it is unbearably slow. After doing some checking around I notice that dell recommends to update the bios in general on these machines. I tried that but it wouldnt flash. Error code -144. Then I ran a test on the supertalent ssd FEM32GFDL wtih HDTune. HDtune said the writing was disabled "please remove all partitions please check manual for more information." I did not receive a manual with the ssd. So after looking on supertalent website I see that it says to set the bios after installing the ssd.
I suppose I had no business doing this. I am very new at all this. It has been such a headache!
Now I wonder have I wrecked the ssd? Or is there anything I can do now to set up the bios? Or do I have to reinstall everything including the os?
Thank you so much for any help!

Go to the web site support page for your hard drive and they should have a manual that you can download.

Could we see HD Tune's read benchmark graph?

Do you have a link to Dell's BIOS update?

Hi.
I will try to post 2 graphs on the benckmark from hdtune after this email.
Since I wrote the original post I have checked the BIOS at startup and Device Manager and they both as far as I can see have recognized the ssd and are not showing any problems. But the computer is just sooo excrutiating slow...
The dell BIOS that is installed is A05. I get an error message if I try to update the BIOS from Dells website to any newer version.
Do you think there is anything wrong with the ssd drive? I only have a few more days left that I can possibly return it. I would sure like to know the sooner the better.
Thank you for your help!

Here is the info from the benchmark. I cant seem to copy the graph to the forum, but I will keep trying.

HD Tune Pro: FEM32GFDL Benchmark

Test capacity: full

Transfer Rate Minimum : 0.2 MB/s
Transfer Rate Maximum : 57.2 MB/s
Transfer Rate Average : 28.7 MB/s

Here in Australia most ISPs provide free web space to their users. If you don't have your own web space, or if you can't work out how to use it, then upload your images to a file sharing service. When you link to your images, please provide a direct URL so that we don't have to suffer the ads, banners, pop-ups, etc.

BTW, I would have expected that your SSD's benchmark would have been a flat line at around 65MB/s (see the "datasheet" below).

Could we see the SMART data under HD Tune's health tab? HD Sentinel's SMART report would probably be better, though.

If the ssd is perfect as this program says why does AS SSD Benchmark give such terrible reads and crash everytime I try to use it. In general the computer occasionally works tolerably well, but more often than not it hangs forever with just one small operation or freezes altogether.

I think it's just a lousy hard drive. So do these guys on http://www.supertalent.com/home/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1...
Apparently there's no fix yet. They say something about a hard drive controller upgrade.

I installed one too in March 2012 on a dell mini inspiron 910 and it is running a bit slower than it did with the old 16 gb ssd.
