hi everyone ive always wondered while there are so many manufacturers for the same videocard, and if theres any quality/performance difference. Ive stumbled upon a GTX 275 AMP once and ive been wondering if amp standed for amplified and if there was a reason for it being more expensive than a normal gtx275...

if someone could explain me id be real happy and could make my mind up on how to proceed on buying one of the new radeons that came out today...

thanks! Raf.

Video card manufacturers frequently use what is called a "reference design" (means copy the chipmaker's - ATI in this case - design). They may or may not add extra features to distinguish their product from other manufacturers.

How to choose? Price, reputation, warranty, extra features.

For the same reason Honda used to deal with Izuzu, or Nissan and Infinity.... The more brands, the more we have to choose from, some brands have lower specs than others, meaning if you are on a budget you can still aquire the same product but with lower specs....Of course there are other reasons but you should not worry about that ATM...

Another thing to consider is that one brand might offer you a lifetime warranty while the other will only give you 2 years.....

As far as the 275 goes, I have never heard of the AMP version but if I were you I would be looking at common brands like EVGA, XFX, BFG, ASUS etc......

The new cards are sold out at the moment.... What resolution do you use?

------------------------------ 550 @ 4.0 Ghz 1.425v
BFG GTX 260 (216)
4GB G.Skill @ 960MHz
Thermaltake TP 850w

reference designs are often just the exact same card from the exact same factory with a different sticker on the cooler . Paying more for a premium brand in that situation is pretty brainless IMO
