My disk drive will not read empty discs

After the disc is placed, nothing comes up when I go into My Computer and double click the drive a dialogue box headed as Window Explorer comes up with: D:\is not accessible, incorrect function. Does anyone know what this is about?

  1. it might not be drive capable of burning discs (or at least not the type of disc you are putting in)

what model number is ur cd drive, and what type of disc are you putting in?
  2. It might be broken. Is this a desktop or laptop? If it is a desktop try a different on if you have a spare. If not order a new one they are cheap like 30 bucks.

It is capable of burning discs and in the past I've used the disc I inserted to do so.

the drive is a Sony DVD+RW DW -Q58a
