Hello,
I haVE A Dimension XPS Gen 3 with A03 bios. XP was loaded on a SATA 0 drive with COMBINATION set in BIOS. Nothing is in SATA 1 position. I have a SATA DVD writer in SATA 3 position with nothing in SATA 4 position. My BIOS has SATA 0 and SATA 1 (empty) as a RAID 0, and SATA 3 and 4 (empty) as a RAID 1. How do I separate the RAID ones into two SATAs so I can put a second NON-RAID in position 4. COntrol I does not seem to do anything an the BIOS setup shows no DISK CONTROLLER that I can change. What is going on? HELP!

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forum!

If you take down the RAID, you will lose data; which includes the OS (XP).

First, backup the entire computer on to an external HDD.

One way to do what you want to accomplish is to clone the OS on to a HDD of similar or greater size, and then to take down the RAID 0 as well as RAID 1.

After that, install the newly cloned HDD as your OS HDD and start the system. Then shut down.

After that re-install all the HDDs that you want and copy back the data per your choice.
