Modem(Motorola SM56) driver problem with Windows XP

I was trying to set up my HP Jetset 5610 all in one to receive faxes, the instructions said to turn off my modem which I did I then decided not to pursue this and attempted to turn my SM56 back on my problem is I don't know how to do this I tried but failed, on Friday of this month I did get a response from I think a Motorola site and said they can instruct me on how to turn my modem back on for a fee of $38.00. Right now when I go to the control panel and click on phones and modems it verifies that I have a SM56 modem and then it says "Not Functionable" I look forward in hearing back from you.

Those data/fax pci modems are dime a dozen. Get another one.
