so ifi was going to build a machine using 3 gtx 280's what is the least i would need to prevent any bottlenecks? keep in mind im not going to be encrypting or anything like that, this machine will be strictly for gaming.

your cpu will bottleneck . no need to get 3 gtx 280, when you can get 3 4890, you do not need 3 of these anyways.

Dx11 cards coming out, so just wait. also new cpus.

a 295 infinity is the most powerful 295 made but can only be liquid cooled ,but 2 295's is just 4 275's so there isn't much difference on performance between 3 280's and 4 275's on anything up to 1900x1200

Wow! Then your monitor is your bottle neck, tri-sli is for more along the lines of 2560x1600 on a 30 inch screen. You would be fine with 1 GTX280, 2 would give you obsurd frame rates at that resolution.

lol all this talk to nothing, when he has only 1680 x 1050, sad

just get 4870 or 4890 instead you can max up pretty much everything.

unless you go for a 30 inch monitor, get 2 4870x2s, the gtx 295 is a waste of money when outperforming the 4870x2 by just a little.

get the core contact freezer instead cheaper and better 35 dollars after rebate. it out performs the dark knight

read my post above too,
the gtx 285 is overkill for 1680x1050 what are you thinkin man..
you can get 2 4870 1gb for $320 and still cheaper than gtx 285.

to original poster, are you gonna upgrade ur monitor man? lol at u thinkin of 3 280s for 1680 x 1050 funny man :D

why get that mobo, when you can get asus p6t that owns evga

i agree with his other parts tho

yeah but what he gonna do after 2 4870's ? a 285 will be just under 2 4870's when its time to upgrade jus add anther 285 the pt6 been having issues of late and if he runs into problems mobo maker cant blame card maker less tech hassle

what im saying is that why spend so much on the gtx 285 when you can get 2 4870s, thats just an comparison, not actually gettin it, because hes runnin 1680x 1050 theres no point, just get a single 4890

and what do u mean "the pt6 been having issues of late" issues of late? whats that

i remember reading reviews saying p6t is overall better than the evga, was just a suggestion. asus is usually more reliable

also if you guys skipped the post up there here it is:

Seems this thread got ahead of itself asking how not to bottleneck GTX 280s in tri-SLI... lol too when the OP will play games in 1680 X 150 resolution.

At the resolution, one 4890 ot GTX 275 will be more than enough.

Who says he needs a 30" when a 24" at 1920x1200 or 1080 is where most games are playable even with 3 280's and show me where a i7 920 OC to 3.8 is bottlenecked, for that matter at stock speed. If the OP wants 3 285's running in SLI with physX enabled he should do it and never look back.

ya how does a cpu at that speed slow a card down, there must be something im missing about cpu's bottlenecking cards. it would seem a i7 920 would be able to run any game on the market without a hitch, especially considering my e8500 can run oblivion on one core.
