I've been reading about the new nForce drivers and what experiences people are having with them. Someone suggested that you do a fresh install before installing the new drivers, some say thats going too far. So I thought I'd start a poll to see how often people format their HDD's and start from scratch.

Twice a year. WinXP Pro.
Only because I screw up the registry.
I'm getting better at not screwing up as much.
When I had WinME I was reformating once every couple of months.
win98se: 3-4 times a year, basically until i've installed/uninstalled so many programs that i've had enough of the clutter, and/or the machine wont shut down properly. moving to win2000pro soon, hopefully there will be a lot less reinstalls.
winxp: 3 days, then a fresh install to anything else. what a peice of garbage. [/rant]
I've never formatted my drive but I once did a clean install about 2 years ago... no make that 2.5 years.
I upgraded to Win2k in that time, changed mobo's and twice videocard without problems. I had to do a repair one time when I changed the mobo, simply because I couldn't uninstall the previous drivers (I destroyed the mobo more or less).
But I'm going to do a fresh install on my new drives next week.

As little as possible. Specially now with 2k/xp. Once i get a setup going i leave it be and dont install much new junk, so it remains pretty crash and glitch free.
I also don't install much junk after doing a fresh install. But I can't live without reinstalling once / ~2 month. The longest time I've lived without reinstalling is ~4 months

It's quite baffling why some people do that as much as they do. A coworker of mine seems to do it a couple of times a month. He's always coming into work going "Man, I had to reload Windows again because I changed setting so-and-so, and screwed things up." Some people have no clue what they're doing.
24 days and counting.....

Yup, see that a lot with people at work. I only do it if my machine fubar's, and I keep it junk free, so that's almost never

Windows feels faster and "fresh" after a clean installation. This is why I can't live without reinstalling in ~2 months, even if I don't have any problems

Simple... defrag often, use file system cleaning tools to remove the mess and lots of registry cleaning tools will do the trick. And don't forget to check for spyware occasionaly.
