My current setup is a phenom x4 II 920 @3.4, m3a78-t, 2 4870 1gb vapors and a 700 watt psu. Im looking to upgrade to either an I7 or the AMD 955BE. To upgrade to the I7 itll cost me just under $700 for the cpu, ram and mobo change and about $500 to upgrade to the newer AMD setup. My problem is that im stuck on which system to go with. I want to hit 4ghz and water cool it eventualy.

I mostly play games like crysis and COD.

Is the i7 setup worth the extra almost $200?

For gaming performance the CPU doesnt seem to be a major factor. Cheaper CPU with more expensive GPU wins in gaming performance.

The i5 should be shipping really soon. It may be the way to go if you can wait a couple weeks.

if you say yes to these 3 question get an i7 1. does your work involve your pc in high power applications 2. do you do moderate to high level rendering 3. are you using $100 bills as toilet paper

It only has to be yes to one of those three questions by the way. For example it's possible that in your case #2 isn't true, but if just one of them is, go i7.
