the usb driver is a chipset driver and should be on the windows disk , and install with windows .

If it hasnt then you may have a faulty mb

Are you getting any response when you plug things in?

When I replaced my processor a few months back my USBs got all screwed up. A new install of XP cleared things right up.

when i place a usb device in it always searches for drivers where in the past it just installs them with no problem

OK, so at least the MB knows they are there. Is this a new MB?

If not, what have you changed recently?

The USB ports show up on the device manager but when a external hard drive, flashdrive, or printer is installed like that is plugged it it has to search for a driver and doesn't find one. Before when I put it in in found it right away.

This has gone past what little I know. Does it do this when you plug a printer in? Maybe something is off with Windows. It should have most drivers ready to install. Can you tell it to let you find the printer driver and use the one that came with the printer?
