I am having issues with my XP not recognizing that a/an music CD is in the CD Rom. The device mgr. says the drive is working properly but it does not show a disk in the drive when I go to My computer, not will it play the disk on auto play. Makes it hard to Rip a disk to WMP when it can't recognize it.

HP Pavilion DV8042
Windows XP SP3 32bit

Ummmm not sure how to check that out. I'm not getting an error, its just not recognizing that there is a disc in the drive whether its blank, an audio or dvd.

Right click My computer > Manage > Disk Management.

Other music video work ? Compare that in disk management also.

Format (file system) may be different.
Otherwise we will look elsewhere.
