Windows xp wont read music cd in cd rom drive

I am having issues with my XP not recognizing that a/an music CD is in the CD Rom. The device mgr. says the drive is working properly but it does not show a disk in the drive when I go to My computer, not will it play the disk on auto play. Makes it hard to Rip a disk to WMP when it can't recognize it.

Disk Management: Valid file system ?
  2. Ummmm not sure how to check that out. I'm not getting an error, its just not recognizing that there is a disc in the drive whether its blank, an audio or dvd.

Right click My computer > Manage > Disk Management.

Other music video work ? Compare that in disk management also.

Format (file system) may be different.
    Otherwise we will look elsewhere.
