Wanna build a storage server

Hi guys!

I want to build up a new home date storage server.

Currently I am using 2laptops running Windows XP with USB hard drives to back up everythings. I want to switch thoses to a single rackmounted server using ZFS to create an HD array. I will also use one laptop that will be setup remotly as a back-up array (in case of faillure).

I will use XFS to manage HDs array and allow me to simply add more HDs (of differant size) when required.

So here is were I need some help:

- Choosing the right linux distribution (I am not used to linux, so a graphical interface would be just nice with the ability of remote controle from windows computer)
- I am looking for mass storage, so I need something where I can hook virtually as many HD as I want. (Is that possible? What is required for it ?)
- Having a way to "miror" changes to the remote server during a specific schedule (Ex: From midnight to 7am)

Any other tricks or tips will be accepted!
