APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Next month or two.
BUDGET RANGE: Under $2,000

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: photoshop, media server, transcoding video files, gaming

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: I'll probably just salvage a couple HDD for data storage.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg.com

PARTS PREFERENCES: Best bang for the buck

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe in future

MONITOR RESOLUTION: I don't think I'll work at resolutions greater than 1600x1200. Things just get too small.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: i'm trying to make sure I get a case that will accommodate that CPU cooler, and will have room for 4 hard drives. I'm not going to use RAID. Any advice at all is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

If you are sticking to 1600 x 1200 res you probably wont be using the SLI potential of the mb any time soon .
If thats the case you might as well use a cheaper but identically performing mb

Velociraptors are not fast any more . Some conventional hard drives are just a s quick and offer way more for the money
Samsung F3 500 gig is the current speed king and costs about $50

That seems to be a nice build, but I am with Outlander, for the price and size of that hard drive, I would choose another.

Thanks for the tips guys..

Looking at Tom's 2009 charts, it looks like Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS,500 GB,16 MB Cache is fastest (But I don't see the F3 on the charts). So Barracuda, F3, or Black??

I'm glad to hear that about the MOBO (Noctua says I have to get their mounting kit for this mobo) - How's this?
