Sata cable question

I have a hard drive that has uses SATA 3.0, and I have a SATA 6.0 cable - my motherboard has both SATA 3.0 and 6.0 slots - can I uses the sata 6.0 cable even though my hard drive can't use those speeds?
Basically, can a SATA 6.0 cable work with a SATA 3.0 device?
