Installing WIN XP on New Build

Hi all,

I am working through my first build, nearly ready to install the operating system. I would like to install WIN XP, since I already own it and I'm not fond of VISTA (running on laptop upstairs), until WIN 7 is released.

However, the hard disk and optical drives I've chosen for my new PC are both SATA, and I understand WIN XP doesn't include the drivers. Can I make this work using nLite software to integrate drivers into the WIN XP install CD?

Here's the system:

-ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO mobo
-AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition CPU
-Corsair Dominator TW3X2G1600C9D G 2GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM
-Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue Hard Drive
-LG GH22NS50R DVDRW Drive

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated, thanks!

nlite should work, there's a handful of walkthroughs on making a slipstreamed copy of an installer disk that will give you details. You could always go old school and hook up a 3.5" floppy drive and put your SATA controller drivers on that.

assuming you have XP sp2 or later you have no problems .

You will not need to slipstream or install SATA drivers with a floppy etc .

Enter BIOS and find the setting to disable AHCI . Do that.

There will also be a setting to enable "native IDE mode " Do that too .

XP will now install on the SATA drive .
