i plan to get a new hard drive to my laptop i found the 640GB one and the the 320 GB . The cost differ, is almost 34$ but I'm afraid that the larger capacity the more fragile and more susibtable to failure as the cylinder and parts will be smaller

Giving more bits in the same area will not make the data easily to get corruption or lost specially when the hdd get shocked (laptop hdd) or its a matter of technology like the diff between CD and DVD they get more bit with the same CD size due to useage of another technology ?

If larger drives systematically failed more often then we'd all be screwed these days because drive capacities have increased by almost a million-fold compared to when I bought my first one.

This just isn't something you have to stay up late at night worrying about.
