nvidia 8600 1gb

plz plz suggest me a good decent graphic card which ican use for 2 - 5 years and not worry about changing
i have already spent alot on the PC and i forgot about GFX card

all the games have lesss FPS and lag like HELL..

i thank u for your replies in advance

PS: MY OS is windows xp 32 bit only 3 gb is used out of 4 is VISTA 64 good OR windows 7 ?? plz do let me know

if you have the money then grab 5850/5870/5870x2. just check your psu wattage and make sure it is enough to power the card. ati 4800 or GTX200 series is good as well but you will miss dx 11 feature on those cards.

if you're thinking of changing OS get Win 7 64 bit. with that you won't have issue about your RAM :)

Windows 7 is the way to go for sure, much better then Vista.

if you are playing at 1280x1024 you really don't need a super high end card. All you could need is the 4850x2 and you will be more then ready.

If you are going to upgrade your monitor to a large one however then you want to look at the 5870 or 5850.

alright then go for the standard 4850, should do fine at that res.

I'd suggest putting a 'placeholder' like the 9600GT in and waiting for the 58xx cards to become available and prices to realign.
Yes, I know the 9600 is not exactly dazzlingly fast but it's capable of reasonable performance at 1280x1024 resolution and not too expensive.
Otherwise and if you cannot wait, drop in a GTX275/HD4890 now and SLI/CF later on. But be aware, only the 58xx cards support DX11, if you do go for powerful card/s now, they'll not be able to use the new features when DX11 games start to arrive.

well it depends on what your monitor can handle but the norm now is 1900x1020 or 1900x1200 the higher the better
which monitor do u have

You guys have thought controlled keyboards or what? Slow down so an old man can keep up;)
I's steer well clear of the 4850X2, get a pair of cards instead, the 4850X2 is well known for running hot, even in temperate climates, two well cooled 4850s will be a better choice in a hot country such as India.

The Samsung SyncMaster 740n is a 17-inch analog TFT-LCD delivering a 600:1 contrast ratio, 300cd/m2 brightness, 1280 x 1024 resolution, 160/160 degree viewing angle and scanning frequency of 30-81 kHz horizontal and 56-75 Hz vertical with a fast response time of 8ms. It features MagicTune, MagicBright II, MagicColor and built-in power.

1280x1024 is not that good if u can sell it and upgrade itgood, if not check this list the higher up the list the better

Resolution is important because there's no sense buying a card w/ more "juice" if your monitor can't support it. LCD monitors are fixed resolution so if you are playing at 1920 x 1200, you need more powerful card than if playing at 1280 x 1024. FPS is also game dependent, 50 fps in one game won't translate into 50fps in another.

You certainly don't need a high end card if less than 1920 x 1200. I'd suggest that you check out THG Graphics Roundup

The 58xx series has just hit the streets but the only one I have seen that you can actually order (and wait who knows how long for delivery) is the 5870 but at $379, it's almost double your budget.
